AUDIO VISUAL SET
Evolution is an experimental audio-visual work produced in 2021. Using found archival footage from Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey and Salvador Dalí's little-known collaboration with Walt Disney — Destino — layered over live footage from an Adriatique performance at Cercle, the work creates a visual narrative from the dawn of human civilisation to the exploration of outer space.
EVOLUTION
Experiments in Audio Visual Experience
Inspired by the Adriatique set for Cercle, I use found archival footage and imagery from popular culture such as 2001 space odyssey and Salvador Dali’s little known collaboration with Walt Disney - ‘Destino’, to explore a story that takes you on a journey from the dawn of human beings to the exploration of outer space.
I work with the live footage recorded on the French Alps as the base over which I layer my visual narrative. It begins with scenes of the Monolith from Stanley Kubrik's 'Space Odyssey' and moves through time using the rhythm and natural beats from the set as reference points to move in and out, and between scenes.
At first there are distinct separations between the live footage and my visual intervention, but as the set goes on and we get deeper into the story the two worlds start blurring and eventually merge into one multilayered experience.
